Abstract
It has been success to carry out of research on the manufacture of organic composite
membrane Chitosan-Montmorillonite/Sulfosuccinate Acid (CS-MMT/ASS) Membrane. Where
Chitosan (CS) was used as a matrix derived from Vaname shrimp shell from the Banyuwangi
Muncar area, the CS production treatment consisted of deproteination, de-eneralization and
deacetylation. The membrane performance was added with Montmorillonite as a filler, and
Sulphosuccinic acid (ASS) as a filler Crosslinker cross linking agent. CS-MMT/ASS membranes
were made with successive variations of 2 gram mass of CS, variations of MMT 1;2;3; 4 and
5 % against chitosan, variation ASS 10; 11; 12; 13 and 14. From the research it can be known
that the interaction between CS-MMT/ASS is formed chemically by hydrogen bond and the
electrostatic interaction of the -O- atom from ASS, the -NH2 and -OH groups from CS. An
increase in ASS cause the formation of more micropore, an increase in the concentration of
MMT causes an increase in the formation of globule, so that the composite membrane becomes
denser and the molecular weight increases. The best variation of the CS-MMT/ASS membrane
variation was 2 grams in a row; 3%; 12%. (% of the weight of chitosan). where the ratio of
water absorption and methanol absorption is 3:1. Permeability of methanol is 1.199x 10-7,
modulus of elasticity is 2692.7 M.Pa
