Abstract

Language in football has special characteristics based on terms and meaning.
Conducting a list of terms is important to do so that there is no misunderstanding in the
meaning of a term, especially in the world of journalism and the world of education. This
study aims to identify English-language terms in soccer term glossary. The results of
identification can be used as starting material for the preparation of dictionaries or a list
of foreign terms in football. Identification is done by internet-based library search.
English foreign terms found are arranged in alphabetical order. The analysis is based on
the number of words that make up the foreign terms in the category of the constituent
words, namely a single word and two words or more. Also identified is the similarity of
the terms found. The identification results show the findings of a number of 462 terms
with categories of terms that are often or often found because they relate to the game or
elements in football itself such as the terms ball, goal, pass, play/player and others as
well as general terms that have meaning itself in football, among others, advantages,
boxes, breaks and others.
